The Greek Homosexual Community
(GHC-EOK) expresses its content over the answer
given by the Deputy Minister for Interior Me Chenofotis
(3-3-08) to the letter of the SYRIZA representative to
Eur. Parliament, Mr Papademoulis, on the issue of the
gay Iranian immigrant, known as “Alex”, after the
involvement of Commissioner Franco
Frattini.
In particular, Mr Chenofotis
answered:
After receiving
your letter, through which you expressed interest on the
development of the case related to the request of an
Iranian citizen, claiming to be a homosexual, I would
like to let you know that we examined his request, in
context of good governance inspired by humanitarianism,
and we have already accepted to re-consider the
case.
In addition, I would
like to let you know that the aforementioned person did
not face, and he is by no means facing, deportation; his
request will be examined in accordance to our
legislation and the Geneva Convention of 1951 for
refugees and will be regarded in the fashion that all
requests are regarded, under humanitarian perspective
and sensitivity.
In addition, Mr
Papademoulis stated on the
issue:
“We hope that,
following the involvement of the Commission and the
letter of the competent Deputy Minister, the Greek
authorities will give an end to the ordeal and the risk
for this fellow human being to be
deported”.
The Greek
Homosexual Community (GHC-EOK) will be following
with interest the development of the case, having trust
to the sensitivity and humanitarianism of the competent
authorities.
